I wasnโt sure if these were going to be one of those things that looks cool in the listing and then gets old after a week, but Iโve actually been using them a lot more than I expected.
The biggest reason is that youโre not stuck with one eye pattern. I originally bought them for the devil-eye look, but once I started messing around with the LOY PLAY app I ended up trying different animations, scrolling text, and a couple of my own GIFs. Being able to change the whole look from my phone makes it feel more like a little programmable sign than just another set of truck lights.
The two-panel setup was also the right choice. With one long screen I think it would look more like an LED banner, but having a separate panel on each side gives it that actual โeyesโ effect. I spent a little time getting both sides lined up evenly before sticking them down, and Iโd definitely recommend doing that instead of rushing the install.
The panels themselves are surprisingly thin and flexible. My windshield has some curve to it and they sat against the glass better than I expected. The adhesive has held fine so far, and the long USB cable gave me enough room to route everything without having the wire stretched across the dash in an awkward way.
The app isnโt the prettiest app Iโve ever used, but I figured it out pretty quickly. Once the Bluetooth connection was set up, changing the display was easy. I actually like that I can make something completely different depending on where Iโm going. I can use the eyes for a truck meet, put up a holiday animation, or change it to text without having to buy another display.
At night is where these really shine. From outside the truck the colors are bright and the animations are easy to see. Iโve had people stop and look at them in parking lots, which is pretty much what I wanted from something like this.
I personally treat these more as a parked/show accessory instead of something I need running while driving, especially since local rules can be different depending on where you live. For meets, shows, events, or just having the truck parked somewhere at night though, theyโre a lot of fun.
Overall, these turned out to be much more customizable than I expected. If they were just fixed devil eyes I probably would have gotten bored with them, but being able to keep changing the graphics is what makes me actually keep using them.
